Lockdown at YSU lifted

YOUNGSTOWN – A lockdown at Youngstown State was lifted around 1:15 p.m. after a man accused of pulling a gun on another man turned himself in. Classes will resume at 3 p.m.

According to news partner WKBN-TV 27, the man with a gun was described as a black man wearing a red hoodie with white lettering on it. The dispatcher said two men were arguing and one pulled a gun on the other at 11:10 a.m. inside Kilcawley Center. No shots were fired.

The man with the gun fled toward the rec center.

Police have not said if the two men are YSU students.

YSU was warning everyone not to come to campus and if they were on campus, to shelter in place. Youngstown Community Health Center, Choffin Career and Technical Center downtown, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and the Main Library were also placed on lockdown.

Eastern Gateway Community College downtown has a Youngstown police officer coming to its campus for extra security. The college has been updating students with text messages.
