Mr. and Mrs. John Prior celebrate golden wedding anniversary

Area residents John and Jacqueline Prior celebrated 50 years of marriage on Jan. 19.

Mrs. Prior, daughter of the late William and Mary Burgess, and Mr. Prior, son of the late William and Marguerite Prior, were married on Jan. 19, 1963, at St. Patrick’s Church in Leetonia.

Mr. and Mrs. Prior resided on the Lincoln Air Force Base in Lincoln, Neb., where Mr. Prior served as an airman 1st class in the 34th Munitions Maintenance Squadron from 1961 through 1965. While in Lincoln, their daughter, Tammy King (Mike) was born on Nov. 18, 1963, followed by daughter Debbie Harp on Nov. 18, 1964. After an honorable discharge, the family returned to the Leetonia area where son Gary (Cheryl) was born on Sept. 27, 1966 in Salem.

Mr. Prior was employed by Cherry Hill Furniture, later Stearns and Foster until its closing in 1992, where he was plant manager. In the late 1970s he owned and operated a TV repair business. After several years in Skelly Foam and Gasser Chair, Mr. Prior retired. He now enjoys golfing and riding his Harley Davidson.

Mrs. Prior worked tirelessly as a homemaker and enjoys reading and spending time with friends and family as well as their annual trips to Disneyland.

The Priors have five granddaughters, Jennifer, Brittany, Mary, Kari and Marina, and two great-grandsons, Jonas and Carson.

The couple celebrated with a surprise 50th brunch at The Links at Firestone Farms given by their children and close friend Lois Mesmer, with close family and friends in attendance.
