Mr. and Mrs. William W. Goodchild celebrate 50th wedding anniversary
William W. and Esther A. Goodchild are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on Oct. 5, 1961, at the First Christian Church in East Liverpool. The couple has resided in the Salem area all their lives, except during Mr. Goodchild’s service in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1960-1965 at which time they lived in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
The Goodchilds have three daughters and two sons, Kimberly (Jeffery) Chapman, Kelly (Terry) Allen, Maria Linam, William R. (Amy) Goodchild and Daniel (Andrea) Goodchild, all of the Salem-Columbiana area. They have eight grandchildren, Tiffany Chapman, Halee Allen, Lydia, J.W., Rebecca Linam, Kasey Ann and William “Tommy” Goodchild and Brandon Menough.
Mrs. Goodchild is one of five children of the late Albert and Helen (Keller) Clark of East Liverpool. Sisters are Kathy (Ron) Rohrbaugh, Donna Waite, Marsha (Paul) Rugg and a brother, Richard who passed at age 11. She graduated in 1961 from East Liverpool High School and in 1962 from A & H School of Beauty Culture as a beautician.
Mr. Goodchild is the only son of the late William E. and Madeline “Madge” (Wilson) Goodchild of Salem. He graduated in 1958 from Salem High School. His 55th class reunion was celebrated this year. He retired in August 2004 from GM Lordstown plant. He enjoys being an electrician and working with the Boys Scouts of Troop 2.
The Goodchilds enjoy their time with family and friends. For 30 years and still counting, they have been watching the grandchildren grow and mature. They are members of Salem Elks Lodge #305 and visit many lodges on their travels. This includes a two and a half month cross country trip to Alaska and back with four other friends called “The Six Peas in a Pod.”
