Dowds to celebrate 65th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Dowd of 2145 Southeast Blvd., Salem, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on June 1.

The former Jean Moore, daughter of the late Ray and Thressa (Wycoff) Moore, and Mr. Dowd, son of the late Ned and Hazel (Andric) Dowd, were married on June 1, 1951, in Lisbon.

Mr. Dowd retired in 1991 from General Motors and owned Dowd’s Stump Removal for 28 years. During the Korean War he served in the Army for two years in Germany.

Mrs. Dowd decorated special occasion and wedding cakes for 30 years. She is a member of the First Christian Church.

The couple’s children are Debra (Dowd) Birtalan of Jacksonville, Fla., Chris Dowd of Richmond, Va., Jason Dowd of Salem, and the late Cynthia (Dowd) Maher. The Dowds also have seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A private celebration is planned by their son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Kathy Dowd.
