Bob Zimmerman to celebrate his 80th birthday

Bob Zimmerman of Salem will celebrate his 80th birthday at an open house reception from 3 to 5 p.m. March 10 at the First Christian Church, 1151 E. Sixth St. The honoree has requested that gifts be omitted.

Mr. Zimmerman was born on March 9, 1933. He and his first wife of 46 years, the late Ann Stowe, had two children, Deb (Darryl) Miller of Salem and Mark Zimmerman of Arlington, Va.; and two grandchildren, Matt Miller of Salem and Mike Miller of Lake Worth, Fla.

He is currently married to Lillian “Grace” Kornbau (eight years). Her family includes three children, Anita (Scott) Williams of Sebring, and Amy (Jerry) Zimmerman and A. J. (Michele) Kornbau, all of Salem. Her grandchildren include Lance (Stephanie) Williams of Harrisburg, Pa., Lori (Eric) Naylor of Sherrodsville; and great-grandchildren, Arabella and Seraphina of Harrisburg, Pa., Jayson, Justin and Jayne of Sherrodsville, Collin, Logan, Tommy, Regina and Lilly, all of Salem.

Mr. Zimmerman graduated from Salem High School in 1951 and Baldwin-Wallace College in 1955. He owned and operated Zimmerman Auto Sales Inc., an Oldsmobile, Buick, Pontiac and GMC truck dealership in Salem from 1955 to 1989. His memberships include the local AAA board of directors (40-plus years through present), and First Christian Church of Salem. He loves to sing barbershop four-part harmony with the Salem Jubilee Chorus and walking and caring for the family dog, “Opal.”
