Ring sentenced for murdering girlfriend at Alliance apartment

LISBON – Randy P. Ring was sentenced in Stark County on Monday to 15 years to life in prison for killing his former girlfriend in her Alliance apartment last summer.

Stark County Common Pleas Judge Kristen Farmer sentenced Ring immediately.

The 58-year-old Knox Township man had originally pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity both in the murder case and a domestic violence case still pending in Columbiana County.

Both cases involved Willa J. Taylor-Hillman, who was strangled in her home by Ring. He then called 911 and admitted to committing the crime by saying, “I just strangled my girlfriend.”

A month earlier, Columbiana County Municipal Court Judge Carol Robb had ordered Ring to stay away from Taylor-Hillman as part of his bond conditions for the domestic violence charge.

Court records show that case involved Ring allegedly shoving her to the ground and attempting to shove his fingers into her eyes. Additionally, she had claimed he pulled her hair while she was trying to get away in her vehicle.

The charge is still pending in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court with the next hearing in scheduled in March.
