Salem Twp. trustees discuss Grubbs well
FRANKLIN SQUARE – Salem Township trustees discussed an oil and gas drilling notice from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for the Grubbs well site in the 4900 block of Grafton Road during Wednesday’s meeting.
Hilcorp Energy owns the drilling rights and Fiscal Officer Cathy Wilms said Thursday that the anticipated road use management agreement hasn’t been signed yet.
There is 1.4 miles of road that travels south from state Route 558 that will have to be placed under a RUMA which Hilcorp representatives, during a November trustee meeting, said they wanted to obtain as soon as possible.
Hilcorp has repaired roads before and after installing drillsites and Trustee Chairman John Wilms told the company at the November meeting that the township would prefer the work is done beforehand.
Wilms also advised that the township would like to physically inspect the area covered in the RUMA to check culverts, ditches and berms before it is signed.
Hilcorp Energy is headquartered in Houston and is one of the largest privately-owned independent oil and natural gas companies in the United States.
In other business, trustees voted to advertise three vehicles that aren’t being used.
Trustee Bill Heston said no minimum bid was set and trustees retain the right to accept or reject any bid.
The Gradall (wheeled) G660 that weighs in at 44,000 pounds will be advertised. The vehicle is a 1960s or ’70s era model and was advertised for sale at $6,500 in April without attracting a single bid.
It has a Detroit diesel in the back and a Dodge engine up front.
Heston said, “If somebody needed it they could spend a little money and have quite a piece of equipment.”
Also set for sale is a 1995 one-ton dump truck that Cathy Wilms said “drives good” and a 1997 Chevy Blazer that was used for township business and later for police patrolling.
In other business, trustees approved purchase orders for snow plow parts for $1,100 and for a fuel tank and a fender for a dump truck.
The next trustee meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Jan. 9 (Tuesday) at the township building.
