Workshop is part of MLK Day of Service

LEETONIA – The Village of Leetonia is hosting a job readiness workshop as part of Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

“Job Ready for the New Year” will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 21 in council chambers at Village Hall. Provided in conjunction with the Corporation for National and Community Service, the workshop will feature one-on-one consultations with volunteers experienced in the hiring process offering tips for resume and cover letter writing and job interviews.

The workshop is open to the public at no cost. Participants should bring their resume and cover letter for critiques.

According to coordinator Justin Hite, the workshop is a community outreach aimed at helping first-time job seekers and those making a career change who have been off the market for an extended period of time.

“It looks like a lot of jobs will be opening up in the oil and shale industry and the other businesses it brings in,” he said. “We offering an opportunity for people to have their resumes looked over, go through mock interviews, get an idea for what is expected.”

Hite said that first-time job seekers will get an idea of what the interview process is like and what employers are looking for on resumes. Those making a career change will also benefit from the workshop because they will learn what has changed since they last interviewed for a job, he added.

“Standards have changed as far as resume styles, interview questions,” he explained. “Questions primarily associated with white collar jobs, that method has filtered down across the market and across industries. We want to update people…so that they’re not shocked (during interviews).”

Volunteers are still needed to help critique resumes and perform mock interviews. Those interested in volunteering should have management experience and familiarity with the hiring process. For information contact Hite via e-mail at LeetoniaCokeOvens@gmail.com.
