Leetonia graduate opens beauty parlor in village

LEETONIA – Holly Cannon has established Holly’s Shear Heaven Beauty Salon at 354 Columbia Street and says business “is pretty good, I can’t complain.”

Cannon, a 2001 graduate of Leetonia High School, also graduated from the Columbiana County Career Center where she learned cosmetology. She has 12 years experience in the hair salon business.

She was employed at Smart Style in Walmart for seven years and before that worked for Express Cuts in Boardman before it closed.

With Holly’s Shear Heaven Salon she has been focusing on techniques that customers ask for like “ombre” which highlights darker colors on top and lighter on the bottom and vice-versa.

She started doing micro loop extensions last year.

“I have quite a few young girls in high school and in their 20s,” she said, adding that her clientele includes woman of all ages and men looking for regular haircuts.

“Lots of women and younger girls,” she said, “and some men.”

Walk-ins are welcome and it’s not too early to be thinking about prom night.

Business slowed around the holidays but afterward “it picked up,” she said.

“If I could have every month like the first four months I’d be happy.”

Shortly after opening she said, “This is a pretty competitive business, it definitely is,” noting there are two or three other beauty shops in Leetonia.

“My pricing is pretty comparable to Smart Style,” she said at the time, adding that all new customers get 20 percent off on their first visit.

Holly’s Shear Heaven uses the TIGI and Redken color product lines.
