Casual clothing store opens
SALEM -Brand new, brand names for less.
Jeff Giles, owner of the Affordable Attire store that opened April 5 at 378 E. State St., said the casual men and women’s wear store features shirts, pants shorts, sunglasses, sweaters, capris, summer dresses, women’s swimwear bottoms, tank tops, hats, hospital scrubs and a variety of athletic and dress shoes.
“Brand names at affordable prices,” Giles, 34, said, adding he was looking for a “good mix of everything” in men and women’s clothing.
The showroom is located in the store that was formerly occupied by Dress Code which moved to South Lincoln Avenue. The building dates back several decades in downtown Salem.
Giles, originally from Salem, lives in East Palestine and was an over-the-road truck driver for several years, and worked in the food service industry after graduating from Salem Weslyan Academy in 1996.
“I wanted to get off the road,” he said about truck driving.
Now, with Affordable Attire, he says he’s “trying to get a full range of clothes” along with accessories like hats, sunglasses, athletic shoes, casual shoes, polo shirts, while also carrying men and women’s colognes.
There are two racks of sunglasses and the photo adorning the showroom walls are all Giles’ originals except for a small section in the back of the store, where a friend set up a small gallery.
Affordable Attire also has hospital “scrubs.”
Giles said, “Only a few places carry them … I got a pretty good price on them.”
He said it only took him about a week of thinking before he decided to open a retail clothier. “It sounded good to me,” he said.
He is the sole employee for now. Store hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store is closed on Sunday and Monday.
