Gospel concert, auction will benefit Alissa Boyle

HANOVERTON- A group of local musicians will host a concert to benefit a local woman battling paralysis.

The Alissa Boyle Benefit Gospel Music Concert and silent auction is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity Friends Church Family Life Center, 33937 state Route 30, Lisbon. There is no admission charge, but a free will offering will be collected. There will also be refreshments available for purchase.

All proceeds will go toward medical and rehabilitation expenses for Boyle, who was injured in February 2012 after jumping from an overpass on Interstate 79 in Pennsylvania.

While assisting a man injured in a crash, she fell over 40 feet to avoid being struck by oncoming traffic. She is now paralyzed from the waist down, but resumed her nursing studies and is continuing therapy in an effort to walk again.

Most recently she has been in Florida the past few weeks in exercise rehab to get greater response from her legs, which she can use for short periods of time using braces and a walker.

The concert will feature sponsor group Loving God Quartet of Salem, including Boyle’s father, Jim Boyle, as well as Belles of Harmony of Winona and God’s Quad Quartet of Lisbon. The silent auction will feature items donated by several community individuals and businesses.

“People can come out and enjoy themselves, but helping [Alissa Boyle] is the main thing,” said Frank Shagnot of the Loving God Quartet. “She’s such a great young lady with more fortitude than most people have.”
