Leetonia council approves auditing agreement

LEETONIA- Village Council Wednesday night authorized a performance auditing company to evaluate village bills and determine where savings can be found.

Council entered into an agreement with GeoStar Professionals, a company that works with county and local governments, as well as private businesses, to identify cost savings in areas such as utilities, insurance and workers compensation. Any savings resulting from the company’s recommendations will be split evenly between the village and the company. There will be no cost if the village does not accept the recommendations. Average savings is 33 percent, according to company representatives.

There are no broker commissions and savings will be measured monthly and justified quarterly before the village is invoiced for services, the representatives said.

In other business council discussed switching cell phone service from Sprint to Verizon due to reception issues, but elected to wait for a recommendation from GeoStar.

Residents may drop off household furniture and appliances, electronics and passenger and light truck tires (without rims) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Village Hall. No bags of garbage or hazardous wastes will be accepted and identifications will be checked to make sure those dropping off items reside in the village.

The next regular council meeting in scheduled for 7 p.m. June 5 at Village Hall.
