South Range board OKs revised 5-year financial forecast

BEAVER TOWNSHIP- The South Range Local school board Monday night approved its revised five-year financial forecast submitted by Treasurer Jim Phillips.

The forecast projects a $1.1 million cash balance for this year and $180,000 in 2014. There is a project deficit of $769, 137 in 2015.

According to Phillips’ review of the forecast, the district has staved off a deficit this year and next through employee attrition and lay-offs, as well as inter-district job consolidations, bus route programming and other purchased services and materials and supplies cuts. The district will also be accepting open enrollment students in 2013-2014.

National tournaments: Two academic teams at the high school have qualified for national tournaments. The board granted permission for the speech team to travel to the National Forensics League national tournament June 16 through 23 in Birmingham, Ala; and the academic challenge team to travel to the National Academic Challenge Competition Friday through Sunday in Atlanta.

Personnel: The board approved Susie Koulianos, Katie Taylor and Ashley Gilbert as teachers; and Dawna Maine, Andrea Seidler, Jennifer Schaefer and Lisa Rohan as aides for the Success by Six program for 2013.

The board also approved for the summer Eric Bodine to perform bus body repairs and Patti Burns, Sandy Semko, Jeannie Schneider, Pamela Rhodes, Julie Binder, Laurie Strabala, Susan Baytos, Jim Schaffer, Krista White, Cullen Kyser, Daniel Blough, Lisa Gorby and Roni Bair as part-time bus and/or facility maintenance help.
