Work will begin soon on intersection in Washingtonville
WASHINGTONVILLE – Work could begin soon on the state Route 14 and Washingtonville Street intersection, according to Becky Giauque, public information officer for District 11 of the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The job was bid out to R.T. Vernal Paving Co. of North Lima at $901,744, Giauque said Wednesday and a pre-construction meeting with the contractor is set for July 9.
An engineers estimate for the project was in the range of $1.1 million with a fall completion date that was expected to be dependent on the availability of asphalt at that time.
“Typically construction starts a couple of weeks to a month later,” Giauque said.
In February, village council authorized the upgrade work to be bid out and Fiscal Officer Dale Davis said ODOT will pay for 100 percent of the construction costs.
The job will more closely align Washingtonville Road with East Street, which are opposite of each other, while widening state Route 14.
It will also add left turn lanes and a traffic signal while providing 8-foot wide sidewalks along both sides of state Route 14 and Washingtonville Road throughout the project limits.
Traffic will be maintained on state Route 14.
ODOT said the average daily traffic (ADT) count was registered at 10,850 vehicles through the intersection.
Any additional features the village wants above ODOT’s requirements will be paid for entirely by the village.
