57th Mile Branch Grange fair kicks off Thursday

KNOX TWP. – The 57th annual Mile Branch Grange Fair is slated for this weekend, offering fairgoers a chance to share time with other members of the community.

The fair, located at the grange on Knox School Road half a mile south of U.S. Route 62, will offer a variety of activities Thursday, Friday and Saturday, including its popular hog wrestling and baby contests and two nights of tractor pulls. Admission is $7 for anyone 6 years and older and includes rides provided by Big O Amusements.

According to fair board member Mary Jo Dye, the fair will remain much the same as last year, with a Thursday night schedule of bingo at 6 p.m., a pedal tractor pull at 6:30 p.m. and a tractor pull at 7 p.m. Friday’s schedule includes a car show from 4 to 7 p.m., bingo at 6 p.m., a pedal tractor pull at 6:30 p.m. and a tractor pull at 7 p.m. Saturday features Kid’s Day activities at 2 p.m., the annual baby contest at 4 p.m., a corn hole tournament at 5:30 p.m., bingo at 6 p.m., musical entertainment by Thrillogy from 6 to 8 p.m., the hog wrestling contest at 8 p.m. and fireworks following at 10:30 p.m.

This year again will be minus the annual dinners due to a lack of volunteers and poor sales. There will be other foods such as melons available, though, Dye said.

The main attraction is spending time with friends and seeing each other participate in events and exhibits, Dye noted. 4-H and other club exhibits will be on display, the commercial building will feature food and craft exhibits submitted by the public and community members will participate in the activities.

“Come out to see your neighbor, see what they’re doing, how they’re doing,” she said.

Items for the commercial building must be presented at the time of entry from 6 to 8 p.m. today or 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. Categories include flowers, baking and cooking, vegetables and fruits, photography, crafts and art in adult and junior (15 years and younger) divisions. Entries for display are open to the public. For information call Patti Oyster at 330-821-6699.

Entry cost for the car and truck show is $5 the day of the event. The first 20 cars get a plaque. There will also be 50/50 raffles and musical entertainment by DJ Shooting Star Melody.

The corn hole tournament is sponsored by the grange and hosted by Rivers Bend Farm Market. There is a $20 entry fee for a two-member team. For information call 330-821-4095.
