Women killed in two-vehicle collision

An East Liverpool woman was killed Saturday in a two-vehicle collision on state Route 170 just south of Negley. Jacqueline P. Werling was the front seat passenger in a Mitsubishi Montero driven by her husband, Melvin D. Werling. According to the highway patrol, the Werling vehicle was northbound on Route 170 at about 10:30 a.m. when it went off right side of the road, hit the guardrail and then crossed back over the center line where it collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Cary S. Winters of Negley. Mrs. Werling was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Werling and a passenger in Winters’ truck were flown by STAT MedEvac to St. Elizabeth’s trauma unit in Youngstown. Winters was taken by ground ambulance to Salem Community Hospital. Alcohol was not a factor, the patrol said, adding that the accident remains under investigation. Shown above is Highway patrol Sgt.
