Zehentbauer to seek trustee seat, leave United board
HANOVERTON- United Local school board President John Zehentbauer will not be running for re-election in November.
Zehentbauer made the announcement following the regular board meeting Wednesday night. Zehentbauer, who has served on the board for 12 years, said he will be running for the Hanover Township Board of Trustees.
Mike Phillis confirmed he will be running while Sue Drotleff did not reveal her intentions.
Also at the meeting, the school board approved the purchase of a new bus from Myers Equipment in Canfield for $89,240. The handicap accessible bus will be used in the regular fleet. Board member Mike Ellyson cast the only dissenting vote.
The board also approved supplemental coaching contracts for the 2013-2014 school year to Jeffrey Weber, eighth-grade volleyball, and Megan Frederick, seventh-grade volleyball; and hired Mike Ward, retired certificated staff member, on a part-time one-year limited contract for the 2013-2014 school year as a business and health instructor.
Additionally the board approved as credential United evaluators, as per the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES), administrators Steve Viscounte, William Young, Frank Baker, Tina Hughes and Marlene Ravelli. In the event that an United credentialed evaluator cannot conduct a teacher evaluation, the district will use an Ohio Department of Education approved evaluator.
The board also approved an agreement with EMT Inc. to provide ambulance service for 28 athletic events for approximately $4,328.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 21 in the high school Library.
