Meeting to discuss Agent Orange

EAST LIVERPOOL A town hall meeting is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion Post 374, 1824 Parkway, for those affected by or interested in the effects of Agent Orange.

Actually a combination of code names Herbicide Orange (HO) and Agent LNX, the powerful herbicide and defoliant was used by the United States military primarily during the Vietnam War to defoliate the jungle for troops.

The herbicide contains dioxin, a known carcinogen, and multitudes of service personnel have reported serious health issues they say are related to exposure to the formula during their service.

The town hall meeting will include speakers Joe Cattell, Header Bowsen and Herb Worthington, all of whom will speak on various aspects of Agent Orange. Bowsen will be speaking as a victim of the effects, while Cattell and Worthington represent the Veterans Administration, according to those hosting the program, who said some studies indicate up to five generations of descendants of those who were exposed can be affected.

Informational materials on obtaining medical assistance and other aspects of exposure will be available, and the names and addresses of those interested in more assistance will be taken to be forwarded to the proper agency for help.

The meeting is open to everyone, with fliers announcing it distributed throughout the tri-state area by local veteran Jim Johnson.
