Saying hello to the future

Ruth Huggins, a retired registered nurse at Salem Community Hospital, signs a banner commemorating the hospital’s 100th anniversary during a celebration held Sunday afternoon. The banners, which include signatures and hand prints of community members and hospital patrons, will be buried in a time capsule during the patient bed tower dedication in January. According to SCH Public Relations Director Michele Hoffmeister, the hospital was started through community fund raising, so the hospital administration wanted to offer the community a chance to celebrate the milestone. “The community has always been a large part of the SCH, so we wanted to give them this opportunity,” she said, noting that over 140 people had visited the celebration. The Look Nook at the hospital is offering 100th anniversary Christmas ornaments beginning this week at $15 each. (Salem News photo by Kevin Howell)
