Alleged rape fugitive taken in Columbiana County
LISBON – A man wanted for alleged rapes in Meigs County in southern Ohio was located locally by the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Department on Haiti Road Tuesday.
Edward Summers, 36, was served the warrant by County Sheriff Ray Stone and five other deputies at his mother’s home on Haiti Road Tuesday morning. Stone said finding Summers was a priority and he is currently being held in the Columbiana County Jail.
According to the Meigs County Clerk of Courts website, an indictment and subsequent warrant was issued in that county’s Common Pleas Court for Summers last Friday. He is charged with two counts of rape, which Stone said he was told involved children. The charges are both first-degree felonies.
Stone said Thursday Summers remains in custody here, but he has signed a waiver allowing him to be returned to face the charges without making a court appearance. Meigs County deputies area expected to pick him up on Friday.
Calls to the Meigs County prosecutor’s office and sheriff’s department on Wednesday went unreturned on Thursday.
Meigs County is located along the Ohio River, south of both the City of Marietta and Athens County.
