Approval of seven levies would increase property tax

LISBON – Seven of the 16 levies/bond issues on the Nov. 5 ballot will result in property tax increases if approved, according to figures provided by the Columbiana County Auditor’s Office.

The seven issues that will raise taxes are in Center Township, the Columbiana school district, New Waterford, St. Clair Township, Salem Township, Salineville and the United Local school district.

A following is a breakdown of the proposed property tax issues on the ballot:

– Center Township: New 1.25-mill fire levy, which would raises taxes by $38 per year for the owner of a $100,000 home.

– Center Township: Renewal of an existing 0.2-mill fire levy, which currently costs the owner of a $100,000 home $5 a year in property taxes.

– Columbiana school district: New 1.2-mill bond issue, which would raise taxes by $42 for the owner of a $100,000 home.

– East Palestine: Renewal of a 1.5-mill fire levy, which currently costs the owner of $100,000 home $39 a year in property taxes.

– Franklin Township: Renewal of 0.9-mill fire levy, which currently costs the owner of a $100,000 home $18 a year in property taxes.

– North Georgetown Fire District: Renewal of 1.5-mill fire levy, which currently costs the owner of a $100,000 home $45 a year in property taxes.

– Homeworth Fire District: Renewal of a 1.5-mill fire levy, which currently costs the owner of a $100,000 home $45 a year in property taxes.

– New Waterford: New 1.7-mill fire levy, which would raise taxes by $59 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home.

– St. Clair Township: New 2-mill road levy, which would raise taxes by $70 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home.

– Northwest Fire District, Salem Township: Existing 2-mill levy being run as a replacement levy instead of a renewal. Its passage would raise taxes by $27 for the owner of owner of a $100,000, who is currently paying $43 on the levy.

– Salineville: New 3-mill police levy, which would raise taxes by $105 for the owner of a $100,000 home.

– Salineville: Renewal of 3-mill operating levy, which currently costs the owner of a $100,000 home $91 a year in property taxes.

– Salineville: Renewal of 2-mill cemetery levy, which currently costs the owner of a $100,000 home $61 a year in property taxes.

– United Local school district: New 3-mill permanent improvement levy, which will raise taxes by $91 for the owner of a $100,000 home.

– Wellsville: Renewal of 1-mill cemetery levy, which currently costs the owner of a $100,000 home $30 a year in property taxes.

– Yellow Creek Township: Renewal of 3-mill fire levy, which currently costs the owner of a $100,000 home $69 a year in property taxes.
