Dollar General work set in spring

NEW WATERFORD – Construction on the Dollar General Store planned for state Route 46 just east of Main Street will begin in the spring, according to Dollar General’s communication’s department.

Jacqueline Dees, a spokesperson for the Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based company, said the information she has shows construction is set for the spring of 2014. She noted it is a free-standing building not located in a plaza. It will use the standard Dollar General store footprint of 7,200 square feet and employ six to 10 full- and part-time people.

There are Dollar General stores in East Palestine, Rogers and Columbiana which fits the company’s marketing strategy. “We try to get our stores in a five to 10 miles radius of one another,” Dees said.

Village officials discussed the store during Tuesday’s meeting, noting the last information the village had indicated a late November opening, around Thanksgiving for the store.

They also discussed a Dollar General Store for Westville Lake. Dees said she had no information regarding that location, but the company could still be doing its due diligence on that location.

Dollar General is the nation’s largest small-box discount retailer, according the company’s website. The company says it makes shopping for everyday needs simpler and hassle-free by offering a carefully edited assortment of the most popular brands at low everyday prices in small, convenient locations.

It also ranks among the largest retailers of top-quality brands made by America’s most-trusted manufacturers, such as Procter & Gamble, Kimberly Clark, Unilever, Kellogg’s, General Mills and Nabisco.
