Man arraigned in stabbing death of Homeworth woman

YOUNGSTOWN – A 51-year-old Youngstown man was arraigned Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court in the stabbing death of a Homeworth woman.

WKBN Channel 27, news partner of the Morning Journal which is a sister newspaper of the Salem News, reported David Hackett had bond set at $2 million on the aggravated murder charge. A preliminary was set for Oct. 24.

Hackett is charged is the killing of Collena Carpenter, 30, of Homeworth, whose body was found Monday morning lying on the ground on West Avenue on the city’s west side, across from the old city water department building. Carpenter had been stabbed multiple times and was lying in a pool of blood., WKBN reported. A pile of her belonging was found a short distance away.

Police said Hackett and Carpenter knew each other. A motive, however, is not yet known. WKBN reported that state prison records show Hackett was convicted aggravated murder and aggravated robbery in Mahoning County in 1979. He was paroled in April 2009.
