Police continue murder probe

SALEM- Police continue to investigate the fatal Saturday morning shooting between two brothers that resulted in the older sibling’s death.

Officers responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots at 530 Walnut St. and found Quinton Lewis, 34, at the rear of the residence and his brother, Marion F. Lewis Jr., 40, last of Columbus, deceased lying face down in the kitchen with multiple gunshot wounds. Quinton Lewis has been charged with murder.

The incident is believed to be drug related, but no further charges are pending from Salem police, according to Detective Dave Talbert.

The brothers have a history of violence, according to Columbiana County court records. Marion Lewis was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in the 1997 death of Martha Gayle Hill, who was beaten and stabbed to death at her West Point home. He was also convicted in another county of robbing Hill and sentenced to a combined 15 years in prison in November 1997.

Quinton Lewis was convicted in 2010 of misdemeanor charges of aggravated menacing and discharging a firearm in prohibited premises in Columbiana County and misdemeanor drug possession charges in Mahoning County.

Talbert said both brothers are originally from the county and that Quinton Lewis has been residing in both Salem and Akron.

Agencies assisting in the investigation include the Ohio Bureau of Investigation, Columbiana County Homicide Task Force, Columbiana County Coroner’s Office, the state highway patrol, Perry Township Police Department, Columbiana County Prosecutor’s Office, Salem Fire Department first responders and KLG Ambulance.
