Salem man cited in school bus crash
GOSHEN TOWNSHIP- A Salem man has been cited in the Pine Lake Road crash involving a West Branch school bus earlier this week.
Michael Hughes, 20, Salem, was cited for failure to control and failure to stop for a school bus after he allegedly struck a bus driven by Theressa Haidet head on while she was stopped on a hillcrest on Pine Lake Road between Duck Creek and Goshen roads at 4:11 p.m. Tuesday. Seven elementary students were on the bus at the time, but none were injured.
According to Trooper Dan Deluca of the Canfield post of the highway patrol, Hughes was eastbound and reportedly didn’t see the bus until coming over the hill, at which time he slammed on the brakes, hit the westbound bus head on and traveled off the south side of the roadway, striking a mailbox and coming to rest in a ditch.
Deluca said Hughes was treated on scene for minor injuries to his neck.
According to information provided by the school following the incident, the students were transported home by another West Branch bus.
