Leetonia BOE OK’s library board appointment
LEETONIA- The school board Thursday night re-appointed a Leetonia library board member after taking a month to discuss the appointment process.
The board approved the re-appointment of Will Lutz to another seven-year term on the library board after tabling the issue last month when board President Kurt Jennings requested more information on the appointment process to ensure all taxpayers are getting a chance to serve.
According to information provided by Library Director Lisa Rohrbaugh, the library was established by resolution as a school district public library in 1935 and is under the control and management of a seven-member board of trustees appointed by the school board no later than 45 days after the date a member’s term expires or after a vacancy occurs. If the board fails to make an appointment, the probate court in which the library is located does.
Rohrbaugh’s information indicated no established appointment process, but explained that the board maintains a balance of men and women of various ages and occupations, representative of both Leetonia and Washingtonville. Each name presented to the school board is based on a group decision and the board welcomes anyone interested in serving on the board to attend meetings prior to declaring themselves candidates.
Candidates must have a library card and support the library in the fulfillment of the library’s mission. Candidates are determined on their overall interest in the library.
Jennings said last month that he didn’t feel comfortable “rubber stamping” the appointments and emphasized that he wanted to ensure everyone was getting the chance to serve.
