Milliken to seek another term as county auditor

LISBON – Columbiana County Auditor Nancy Milliken announced Monday she is seeking re-election, and other officials are expected do likewise in the coming weeks before the Feb. 5 filing deadline.

Milliken, the former chief deputy county auditor, was appointed to the position in 2000 following the retirement of Patricia Hadley. She successfully ran for election in 2002 , winning re-election in 2006 and again in 2010.

“I think we’ve done some good things over the years and there’s more I’d like to accomplish, and I’d like to be here to see that it gets done,” said the 67-year-old Republican.

Milliken said she has tried to emphasize customer service in every aspect of her operations, whether it be in the office or continuing to improve their website by adding features and making it more user friendly.

Milliken pointed out she has worked to keep increases in property values as low as possible to mitigate increases in property taxes, while working with farmers to explain state-mandated increases in CAUV rates. She also worked to improve the dog warden website by adding a feature to help track missing pets.

She also pledged to continue working with county commissioners and other officeholders in taking a conservative approach to the county budget and ensuring the county remains in good financial shape.

As for her office, Milliken noted she had three people quit or retire in recent years and only filled one of the vacant positions.

“There is a need for someone with the experience and skill for this office, and I believe I have those qualifications,” she said.

Milliken and her husband, Gary, live at Guilford Lake. They have three daughters and six grandchildren.

Other officials up for election this year are state Rep. Nick Barborak and county Commissioner Mike Halleck, along with U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, Gov. John Kasich and other statewide officials.
