Buckeye seeking grant for new sound system

SALEM – The Salem school board met in special session Tuesday morning to give its blessing for an application to the Salem Community Foundation for sound improvements at Buckeye Elementary School and the high school auditorium.

Superintendent Tom Bratten said they’re seeking $71,546 for a new amplification system for all the classrooms at Buckeye and to upgrade the sound and lighting systems in the auditorium at the high school.

The board also approved an emergency purchase of about $17,000 to replace some of the lights now in the auditorium since they aren’t working at all and there is a play coming up. The rest of the renovation will likely take place in the summer.

He said they should know by spring if the district is receiving the grant.

The board also announced a special meeting will be held at 7 p.m. March 12 in the administration building to go into executive session for personnel matters. No action will be taken.

The next regular meeting of the board is set for 7 p.m. March 17 in the high school library.
