Celebrating the arts

Shoppers peruse the craft tables during Evening of the Arts at the Salem ReStore Tuesday night. The retail outlet featuring building materials and household goods at discount prices to benefit the Habitat for Humanity of Northern Columbiana County now has a craft room, too. The evening included entertainment and the unveiling of murals painted by Salem High School art students on donated doors. Celebrating the arts

LISBON – Some of the top young artists in Columbiana County schools were chosen to participate in an art exhibit and award show on Thursday at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center.

Students from Columbiana, Crestview, East Palestine, East Liverpool, Leetonia, Lisbon, Salem, Southern Local and United Local in grades kindergarten through 12th grade were chosen to display their work and in some cases take home awards. Some students even chose to allow their artwork to remain in the permanent gallery at the ESC.

The award winners in the elementary division were honorable mention – Olyvia Barnett, kindergarten, Crestview; Natalie Entrikin, first grade, Leetonia; Joshua Bland, second grade, East Palestine; Joseph Guido, third grade, Leetonia; Noah Riedman, fourth grade, East Palestine, and Ben Shasteen, fourth grade, Leetonia, tie. The elementary reserve best of show went to Anna Goodwin, fourth grade, Salem. The best of show was awarded to Allison Connor, fourth grade, United.

The middle school division honorable mention winners were Regina Kornbau, fifth grade, Leetonia; Kelly Hanlon, sixth grade, Salem; Chloe Chappell, seventh grade, United; Alivia Brothers, eighth grade, Southern Local, and Cleo DeWitt, eighth grade, Columbiana, tie. There was also a tie for reserved best of show, Madisyn Best, seventh grade, Leetonia, and Daphne Athey, seventh grade, Crestview. The middle school best of show winner was Landon Rhodes, fifth grade, United.

The high school honorable mention awards went to Catelynn Frantz, ninth grade, Lisbon; Evan Davis, 10th grade, Leetonia; Erynn Jones, 11th grade, Leetonia; and a four-way tie in the 12th grade division – Emilee Chlebus, Crestview; Karlie Helman, Lisbon, Ashley Treon, Southern; and Miranda Timmons, East Liverpool. The reserve best of show went to Autumn Champney, 12th grade, Leetonia; while the best of show was awarded to Katie Schallick, 12th grade, Columbiana.
