House fire investigated; no injuries

LEETONIA – Firefighters responded to a house fire at 37921 Main St., Ext. at 10:23 a.m. Saturday. There were no injuries and no one was home at the time.

Leetonia Fire Chief Larry Hephner said that while nothing appeared to be suspicious, the cause is still under investigation and the state fire marshal will investigate the scene on Monday.

Hephner said heavy smoke was coming from an upstairs window when firefighters arrived and they entered through the front door. One room sustained heavy damage and the rest of the insured house had extensive heat and smoke damage.

Fifteen firefighters responded with an engine and tanker and the Green Township Fire Department provided mutual aid. Firefighters were back in service at 3 p.m., Hephner said.

According to a county auditor’s website, the home is owned by Rick and Patty Altomare.
