Ohio Turnpike shut down between Toledo and Cleveland
TOLEDO (AP) – The State Highway Patrol reports accidents involving several tractor-trailers have shut down the Ohio Turnpike in both directions midway between Toledo and Cleveland.
A patrol spokeswoman says a trooper suffered serious injuries when he was pinned between vehicles while investigating one of the accidents.
Crashes were reported in both the westbound and eastbound lanes Wednesday afternoon just south of Sandusky.
The turnpike says another pileup has the westbound lanes of the toll road blocked in Lorain County.
A big dose of heavy, blowing snow is hitting much of northern Ohio.
Many counties along the top edge of the state from the Indiana state line to Sandusky are telling drivers to stay off the roads unless they are emergency or essential personnel.
