Charges pending against boys who set fires

LISBON – Charges are pending against three Lisbon boys after fires were set to a house and business Friday evening.

The Columbiana County Sheriff’s office responded to the scene of the fires – a house across from Pondi’s on state Route 45 and a nearby pallet business on Grant Street – shortly after 8 p.m.

Lisbon fire crews were able to act quickly after Kyle Holloway, an employee at the pallet business, spotted the fire.

According to reports, witnesses noticed three boys running from the house owned by Ray Perrino shortly after the fire was set with one witness taking photographs of the three leaving the house.

The fires are believed to be arson after fire crews picked up a lighter reportedly dropped by the boys in an alley near the house. Kurt Van Cura, the pallet company’s owner, also reportedly found another spot where the three attempted to light a new stack of pallets.

The three boys, two of them age 14 and the other 11, were eventually located and agreed to speak with deputies. All three reportedly admitted to setting both fires.

The boys were released to their parents and will face charges in juvenile court as the investigation continues. West Point fire crews and North Start Critical Care ambulance were on stand-by.
