Copeland Oaks breaks ground on $1.2M in renovations

SEBRING- Copeland Oaks retirement community Thursday afternoon broke ground on a $1.2 million remodeling project that will consolidate its assisted living area.

The renovation will include the addition of two full-service kitchens and dining areas with balconies overlooking the scenic campus. Apartments and common areas will be updated and expanded to provide a more home-like atmosphere and person-centered care with added technology and activities.

The community is coming off its golden anniversary last year and is looking to move forward with a new generation’s needs in mind, according to Executive Director Phil Braisted.

“Copeland Oaks is looking to meet those changing needs with this remodeling project, which will expand and consolidate the assisted living area of our campus,” he said in a release. “Fifty years ago, people didn’t live as long and their families took care of them. Now, seniors are living longer and looking for different housing options.”

Stitle Construction of Salem is handling the project, scheduled to be completed by the end of June. An open house slated for July.

Several residents, donors and staff members attended the groundbreaking ceremony where Braisted acknowledged all those who helped raise funds for the project or were gracious when displaced by the construction since the project’s initiation in the strategic plan six years ago.

The retirement community, a faith-based 250-acre multi-facility campus located at 800 S. 15th St., was established in 1963 and caters to adults seeking independent living, assisted living, rehabilitation care, urgent care, short and long term care and physician care on-site.
