Goshen Twp. caregiver charged with stealing checks from client

GOSHEN TWP. – A township woman has been charged with felony theft and forgery after allegedly stealing checks from a disabled woman for whom she was caring.

Ashley A. Brooks, 24, 12205 Goshen Road 132, Salem, was arrested at her home at 9:06 p.m. Friday on a warrant for theft and forgery, both fourth-degree felonies.

The charges stem from a report filed by a Seacrist Road resident on March 29 claiming Brooks stole the checks while caring for her as a home health aide with a Salem business. The resident said she noticed the checks missing, then received notification of overdraft fees from her bank. She also noted that the signatures appearing on the check copies was not legitimate.

It was unknown at the time of the report how many checks had been taken.
