Trustee: No leaves in cleanup
Trustee Don Kendrick issued a clarification to township residents: the list of acceptable items for spring cleanup does not include bags of leaves.
“This isn’t a leaf pickup,” he said Monday night.
The township’s annual spring cleanup is in its second week, this time on the south side. During the trustees’ meeting, Kendrick said he spoke to township workers and learned some residents put out leaves, which aren’t supposed to be put out at this time.
The cleanup started last week on the north side and now it’s the south side’s turn. The annual cleanup is for township residents living outside of the city limits, with State Street the dividing line between north and south.
All items that will be accepted must be placed curbside in disposable containers that can be lifted by one person into the truck. A limit of one truckload per household is permitted. No electronics will be accepted this year, which means no televisions.
One piece of heavy furniture will be permitted and must be able to be lifted by two people into the truck. Prohibited items, besides electronics, include propane tanks, paint products or paint cans, batteries and anything containing freon.
Each household will be limited to five tires without rims, with tires separated from other items since they’ll be picked up separately.
In other business, Trustee Chairman Cliff Mix announced that the last of three houses to be torn down in the township is now torn down, through a grant administered by Columbiana County. Kendrick wasn’t sure if a fourth house they submitted was approved. The county had received some extra funding and asked communities to submit more possible homes needing torn down.
Four zoning permits have been issued for the month of April so far. A Board of Zoning Appeals meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday regarding an oversized garage.
In road matters, police Chief Mike Emigh was asked to submit a list of possible roads needing line striping this year. The township road supervisor also will be asked for a list.
The next trustee meeting will be 6:30 p.m. April 28.
