Salem school board OKs 5-year budget forecast
SALEM- The school board Monday night approved a five-year forecast that does not see a deficit cash balance until 2017.
The board approved the forecast submitted by Treasurer Jim Wilson that projects a positive cash balance until 2017 when it dips to a $1.04 million deficit, despite deficit spending each year of the forecast, starting with $11,000 this year.
Wilson said due to an economic recovery – state tax revenue is the highest it has been in years, he said- the district has seen a stabilization of property values and increase in property taxes and delinquent tax collections.
In other business the school board agreed to place a five-year 6.7-mill renewal levy on the November ballot. Wilson reminded residents that the levy is no increase in taxes.
The board also approved athletic supplemental contracts for Roger Zeigler, senior high girls basketball head coach; Ron Johnson, senior high football head coach; Jason Swiger, Mike DeBarr, Charles Ellington, Mike Maietta and Jason Lude, senior high assistant varsity assistant coaches; Logan Wartman, ninth-grade football head coach; Cory Wonner, ninth-grade football assistant coach; Barry Long, eighth-grade football head coach; Steve Bosel, eighth-grade football assistant coach; Mike Douglas, seventh-grade football head coach; Jeff Craig, seventh-grade football assistant coach; Hank Brock and Ron Johnson, weight room supervisors (fall); Travis Zeigler, girls soccer head coach; Chelsea Barrett, girls soccer assistant/junior varsity coach; Allie Winner, volleyball head coach; Kaylin McCue, volleyball junior varsity coach; Sarah Hamilton, ninth-grade volleyball coach; Leah Perry, eighth-grade volleyball coach; Kylie Wolfgang, seventh-grade volleyball coach; Ken Robbins, boys golf head coach; Barb Wollitz, girls golf head coach; Frank Parks, senior high boys and girls cross country head coach; Yvonne Parks, cross country assistant coach; Athena Spinnel, varsity cheer advisor; Chelsey Knoch, ninth-grade cheer advisor; Ashley Boyle, junior high cheer advisor; and Dave Stratton, middle school faculty manager (athletic director).
Additionally the board approved as custodial summer help Rhonda Nolan and Sandy Stalnaker, Buckeye; Beth Risbeck and Carol Speece, bus garage; Deb Erath, Jill Maenz, Rex Allen and Gisela Hiltbrand, high school; Brandon Floor, Kenneth Hardy Jr. and Bill Pritchard, maintenance; Harry Robinson and John Ritchey, Reilly; and Michelle Schreffler and Pam Devan, Southeast.
The board also accepted donation of $315.94 in paint from Sherwin Williams.
