Car show planned at Centennial

SALEM – Centennial Park will provide the setting once again for antique cars, oldies, prizes and free food during the annual antique car show from 5 to 8 p.m. June 20.

“People enjoy it and we’re looking forward to seeing familiar faces and new faces. We hope people will come and enjoy the day with us,” Salem Parks Director Steve Faber said.

The parks department has been hosting an antique car show at the park for several years now as part of the Friday night festivities during the Salem Super Cruise.

The parks department partners with the Tri-County Antique Car Club and the Salem Visiting Nurse Association for the event held under the trees near the main pavilion off of East Pershing Street.

The VNA takes care of the refreshments and provides manpower for the car show. Faber said a DJ is scheduled to play some tunes from the 60’s and 70’s.

Prizes for the drivers will be awarded based on the parks department choice, the VNA choice and the Tri-County Antique Car Club choice, with each winner awarded $50.

“Everything’s free,” Faber said, noting there’s no entry fee for show cars.

He also said they’ll have bleachers in front of the Memorial Building on East State Street and music available Friday and Saturday night during the cruise for people to sit and watch the cruising cars go by.
