Race for the ROC registrations, sponsorships still being accepted
SALEM – Organizers of the annual Race for the ROC 5K Obstacle Race are still accepting online registrations and sponsorships for the third annual event set for Aug. 16 at Waterworth Memorial Park.
The current race registration cost is $40 per individual and $35 if registering as part of a team, but after Wednesday, the rates increase to $45 and $40, respectively. Each participant will receive a T-shirt.
After the 5K race, there’s a Family Fun Run planned. The cost is $10 per person or $30 per family for up to five runners. T-shirts are not included with the Fun Run registration.
This year’s 3.1-mile race will feature two new obstacles which won’t be announced until race day. Other course obstacles will include a mud crawl, hay bales, runs over and under staggered logs, a run through a mud pit, tires in-and-outs, a tunnel crawl, a slip n’ slide and a run through tangled ropes.
“These are unique challenges you won’t see in your typical 5K race,” race director Caroline McDermott said. “This type of obstacle race is becoming very popular around the country.”
Money raised from this annual event benefits The ROC of Salem Youth Center, a community outreach ministry that serves youths ages 10-20. The center is open three nights a week, with two nights for high school youths and one for middle school ages. Activities provided free to attendees include Bible studies, basketball, volleyball, pool, ping pong, foosball, air hockey and Wii.
