Car strikes house on 3rd Street

Salem firefighters, Mike Bryan, left, and Steve Mix, tend to accident victim Mark S. Byland, 31202 Tower Road, after his vehicle struck a house on West 3rd Street at 12:58 p.m. Friday. Police said Byland was unconscious but came to when they opened the car door. He appeared to have a medical condition. Police learned the accident began at North Howard Avenue and the West 2nd Street intersection. His vehicle went north through a yard striking a fence post at 266 N. Howard Ave. and continuing on to the residence at 161 W. 3rd St. where foundation damage along with damage to the siding, downspout and interior damage to the bathroom were noted. Byland was transported St. Elizabeth Health Care Center. The home at 161 W. 3rd St. is owned by Bonnie Adams and the residence at 266 N. Howard is owned by Linda Shultz. (Salem News photo by J.D.
