Police seek suspect in thefts

SALEM – Detectives are looking for the public’s help in finding the culprits who broke into two separate businesses sometime early Thursday.

A spokesman for Club Fuel at 188 Railroad Street called police at 11 a.m. Thursday to report that sometime overnight, an unknown person or persons forced open the front door to the business, damaging the door frame.

Once inside, the person or persons removed a large amount of alcohol and electronics from the business, including several televisions.

The manager of the Salem Elks at 824 E. State St. reported at 11:23 a.m. Thursday that it appeared someone had been in the building. No point of entry could be determined.

Det. Dave Talbert of the Salem Police Department said an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen from the Salem Elks. He’s hoping someone can identify the unknown man shown in surveillance footage from the Elks.

The man had a beard and appeared to be wearing a shirt in two of the photos, but then had the shirt off when he was removing the money and reportedly used it to hold the money. Several tattoos can be seen in the images on his arms and on his back.

The photos have been placed on the police department’s Facebook page and Talbert said they’re looking for information on both cases. Anyone knowing anything about either break-in or the identity of the man in the photos at the Elks should call the police department at 330-337-6001.

“We don’t know if they’re related,” Talbert said about the two cases.
