West Branch hosting kindergarten readiness program

BELOIT- West Branch Local Schools is again hosting the “Success By 6” summer kindergarten readiness program through a grant from the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. West Branch is able to provide a three-week early kindergarten program for up to 60 incoming kindergarten students at no cost to the district. The program runs through Aug. 15 at the Knox and Damascus elementary schools.

“This is a great program to help our incoming students transition to kindergarten. We have two classes at Knox Elementary and two classes at Damascus Elementary. The students are reviewing early reading skills, math skills, getting to know their peers, and learning the school routines. We’re having a lot of fun as well,” said Aaron Walker, who helps administer the program.

The program is offered to incoming kindergarten students based on several factors including test scores and teacher and parent recommendations.
