Bank robbery suspect questioned in other cases

EAST LIVERPOOL — An Austintown man charged last week following a robbery at a Canfield bank has been questioned by city police in connection with a recent bank robbery downtown.

Jarett Drajic, 22, whose last known address was South Roanoke Drive, Austintown, was charged with robbery by Canfield police after he reportedly entered the Farmers National Bank there and handed cashiers a note demanding money.

He was apprehended by Columbiana police officer Jen Calko after she noticed a vehicle in that city whose description matched the one given out by Canfield police as having been used by the robbery suspect.

Drajic is in custody in the Mahoning County jail, and East Liverpool Detective Greg Smith said he has spoken to the suspect in relation to a Feb. 10 robbery at the Bradshaw Avenue branch of Farmers National Bank.

The person involved in that robbery also handed the cashier a note demanding money, and on the following Monday a man closely resembling his description robbed a bank in Chippewa, Pa., with police in Beaver County, Pa., also investigating the possibility it was the same person in each of those incidents.

Smith said he has filed no charges in relation to the local robbery and plans on speaking with Drajic again.

He said Drajic was on parole for a previous crime when arrested, saying he believed it was a robbery of some sort. Canfield police Chief Chuck Colucci was quoted as saying previously that it appeared the robbery in his jurisdiction was drug-related due to items discovered inside the vehicle in which Drajic was found.

The money taken in the Canfield robbery was recovered.
