Disabilities board agrees to spend $6K a month on candle marketing
LISBON — The Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities voted this week to spend $6,000 a month on a company providing someone to market the Beaver Creek Candle Co.
Superintendent Bill Devon told the board the contract with the company, called IMG, will allow a company to hire, train and pay someone to become the sales professional for the Beaver Creek Candle Co. While Devon said the candles, which are made by clients of the CCBDD at EDI-Central, are currently sold retail, the new contract will allow someone to peddle the candles at trade shows and to gift shops as wholesale amounts.
For instance, right now, Devon said they could be working on Christmas orders, if they had a system where gift shops could order their candles ahead.
The CCBDD can get out of the contract with 90 days notice if they find sales are not improving. However, Devon said it will take several months to train the person to become the sales person they need.
While some board members seemed skeptical they agreed to approve the contract for now.
In other matters:
— The board approved a memorandum of understanding with the Columbiana County Developmental Disabilities Education Association to settle a grievance and amend the contract. Devon said the change is a clarification of the contract for everyone involved. The board also went into an executive session to discuss a possible additional employee issue.
— The board approved an amendment with the service and support administrators contract.
— The board renewed membership with the Ohio School Board Association at a fee of $400, renewed the yearly software license agreement with Primary Solutions at a rate of $16,741 and approved sponsorship of the 2017 April in-service of the Northeast Branch of the Ohio ARC at a fee of $2,000.
— The board also approved the calendar for adult services and the Robert Bycroft School for next school year.
