Man found dead after Goshen Twp. standoff

GOSHEN TWP. –A man was found dead inside a South Duck Creek Road home Tuesday afternoon following a standoff that lasted hours.
According to the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office, Micheal Griffin, 58, died from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after being served with a protection order.
A deputy sheriff responded to the home just north of Middletown Road to serve the protection order at approximately 11:20 a.m. when he heard a shot fired. Griffin reportedly reentered his home and fired the shot, at which time the deputy retreated and called for backup.
A SWAT Team went into the house after ordering someone to come out for over two hours. Police had not received a response and went inside around 2 p.m.
Goshen Township police provided traffic control. The roadway was closed between Calla and Middletown roads.
