Salem to pick up paper leaf bags until April 15
SALEM — The city will pick up paper leaf bags from now until April 15 for residents still trying to clean up their leaves. The city has no more bags to give, but they’re available for purchase at various stores in the area. The city had not intended to pick up leaves this spring, but city Service/Safety Director Ken Kenst said the street workers have some time available, thanks in part to last year’s paving project, giving them less roads to worry about potholes or maintenance issues.
“We’ll give everybody one last shot to get spring cleanup done,” he said.
He also announced that the contractor replacing the traffic light poles in the downtown should finish up today at the intersection of Howard and State, so a section of State Street will be closed. Kenst said he’s pleased that they’re getting finished so quickly.
