Teens injured in crash on bypass

Emergency personnel move an injured teen from a Ford Escape Saturday after a two-vehicle collision on the state Route 45 bypass at Georgetown Road. The female driver, whose age wasn’t known, and two 15-year-old female passengers were all transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown and listed in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon, Trooper Mike Smith of the Lisbon patrol post said. According to Smith, the westbound Escape stopped at the stop sign and proceeded into the intersection where it was struck by a northbound Chevy Tahoe driven by Traci Sneltzer, 47, of Salem. The accident shut down the bypass from state Route 9 to U.S. Route 62 for two STAT MedEvac helicopters to land on the highway on either side of the intersection. Two of the teens were flown from the scene on separate helicopters while another traveled by EMT Ambulance. After the collision, both vehicles traveled off the southwest side of the road. Sneltzer was not injured. Smith said the accident remains under investigation, but the teen driver was at fault. Emergency personnel on the scene included the Perry Township and Salem fire departments, Salem and Perry Township police units, Green Township Fire/EMS, Damascus Fire Department and EMT and KLG ambulances, along with STAT MedEvac.
