LEETONIA — Village administration has established a beautification committee as part of the downtown revitalization effort.

“This committee is important for our community improvement,” said Mayor Kevin Siembida. “It should bring the community together to start rebuilding itself.”

The Leetonia Beautification Committee will be immediately responsible for raising funds to purchase brackets, hanging baskets and flowers for the downtown area.

The goal is to raise enough funds to purchase 65 brackets, hanging baskets and flowers.

The cost for a completed hanging basket and bracket is approximately $75. The committee needs to raise $4,875 to complete the project.

In an attempt to raise funds, the committee is holding monthly “lottery basket” raffles. Tickets cost $5 for six and can be purchased at the water department, 300 E. Main St., or Hair designs by Cheryl at 67 Oak St.

The committee is also holding a pasta dinner from 2 to 4 p.m. April 30 at the American Legion, 540 Main St. The menu includes rigatoni, meatballs, salad, bread, beverage and dessert. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 10 years old and younger. Tickets can be purchased in advance and carry out dinners are available. To purchase tickets or place a carry out order, call Cheryl Pittman at 330-853-9334 or Heather Rae Kelm at 330-360-4165 or purchase tickets at the water department.

The dinner will include a 50/50 raffle, with tickets costing $5 for six; and a Chinese auction of several baskets that have been donated by community members and businesses. Tickets for the Chinese auction are $5 for 10.

Committee members include Siembida, Pittman, Kelm, Judy Amprim, Karen Jones and Toni Manzetti.

“We want to see the community come together to make Leetonia a better place to live, a prettier place to live,” said Kelm. “Having flowers on Main Street will breathe a breath of fresh air into the area and ideally attract people.”

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the beautification committee may contact Kelm at 330-360-4165 or mail checks payable to the village of Leetonia to the Leetonia Village Hall care of Leetonia Beautification Committee, 300 E. Main St., Leetonia OH 44431.
