New Salem police officer
New full-time Salem Patrolman Dave Young recites his oath of office administered by Salem Mayor John Berlin during a swearing-in ceremony Friday morning in council chambers at Salem City Hall. A Salem High School graduate and a 2013 graduate of the Kent State University Police Academy, Young returns to the Salem Police after working a year as a full-time deputy with the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. His police career began when he was hired as a part-time patrolman in Salem in 2014. Young takes the position vacated by the retirement of Lt. Donn Beeson, whose last day was Friday after 37 years with the department between the auxiliary, working part-time and then full-time. Chief J.T. Panezott said Young did an outstanding job as a part-time officer and is well-liked by members of the department. His wife Jessica and son David accompanied him to the ceremony.
