SALEM –A suspected drug overdose has claimed another life in Salem, according to Salem Police Detective Dave Talbert.

The deceased was identified as Tyler Joy, 38, previously of East Liverpool, last known address Lisbon, who was found unresponsive in a home at 1851 Cleveland St., Salem, Friday morning.

Officers were called to the property at 11:01 a.m. for a medical emergency, along with fire department first responders, and determined Joy was deceased. Due to the circumstances, the coroner, detectives and a member of the Columbiana County Drug Task Force also responded to the scene.

Talbert said friends found him in the basement bathroom. Evidence was gathered at the scene.

The department is investigating a handful of suspected drug-related deaths that have occurred this year, with Talbert noting they’re trying to gather information to go after the drug suppliers. The other drug overdose deaths remain under investigation.
