United board approves contract for treasurer

HANOVERTON — The United Local school board Wednesday night approved a contract for the district’s treasurer.

The board approved a four-year contract for treasurer Melissa Baker effective Aug. 1 at a salary of $77,415.

Baker was originally hired in August 2015.

Also at the meeting, the board honored Superintendent Steve Viscounte on his impending retirement. The board presented him a clock in remembrance of his time at United.

Viscounte will retire on July 21 after five years as schools superintendent.

In other business, the board approved a 10-cent price increase (to $2.85) for school lunches for the 2017-2018 school year to stay in compliance with federal lunch guidelines in order to remain eligible for reimbursements, and the purchase of two 2018 Thomas buses, C2 Safety Liner, from Myers Equipment of Canfield for a total price of $175,128.

The board also approved an agreement with Coldwell Timber Consulting LLC to consult and harvest trees from recent storm damage, an agreement with Scenario Learning LLC Software to provide SafeSchools Online Staff Training for United Local Schools in the amount of $931.50 and an amended agreement with George E. Sansoucy, P.E., LLC. to provide consulting for property appraisal in reference to the Kensington Plant for the district’s tax appeal.

Additionally the board approved an agreement with The Nutrition Group to continue as food service provider for the 2017-2018 school year and Don Harrison to continue as water supply technical supervisor at a rate of $800 dollars per month through May 31, 2018.

Also at the meeting the board approved the supplemental resignation of Loretta McLaughlin as Community Education Coordinator and granted 2017-2018 supplemental contracts to Nome Baker for marching band, Nome Baker for pep band, Nome Baker for jazz band, Lindsay Brothers for Spanish Club advisor, Danielle Burch for National Honor Society, Heather Connor for elementary art, Lori Conser for sixth-grade choir, Ann Cooper for head resident educator mentor, Abbie Joyce for positive behavior support, Krista Fitch for T.V. studio, Matthew Fowler for yearbook advisor, Megan Gozelanczyk for junior high academic challenge advisor, Jake Kilroy for academic challenge advisor, Dennis Klaustermeyer for technical advisor, Christine Martin for majorette/flag advisor, Kathryn Matthews for high school art, Beth McGaffick for elementary SAP coordinator, Jason Minard for percussion instructor, Sonya Minard for assistant band director, Noleen Moore for volunteer coordinator, Noleen Moore for Key Club advisor, Samantha Muniz senior class, Lucinda Neiswanger for junior high choir, Lucinda Neiswanger for play director, Lucinda Neiwanger for high school choir director, Lorraine Raymond for high school SAP coordinator, Jackie Sanor for ASL advisor, Kristine Urmson for FCCLA advisor, Karrie Varagliotti for elementary student council, Denise Ward for newspaper advisor, Betty Whiteleather for high school student council, Betty Whiteleather for junior class advisor, Betty Whiteleather for sophomore class advisor, Betty Whiteleather for freshman class advisor, Betty Whiteleather for Ruriteen advisor and Betty Whiteleather for Community Outreach.

The board also approved a trip for the concert choir to travel to and perform in Nashville, Tenn., April 4 through 7, 2018, and accepted donations of $540 to the Ruriteens from an anonymous donor for a scholarship, $150 to the boys’ basketball team from Bob Sebo for a golf outing fundraiser, $99 to Student Council from miscellaneous donors, $472 to the sophomore class from miscellaneous donors at the Parade of Fashions, $164.25 to the high school principal account from an anonymous donor to put towards a student’s fee, $100 to the high school principal account from Trinette Jones to put towards a student’s fee, $250 to the eighth-grade Washington, D.C. trip from the Ruriteens and $40 to Academic Challenge from miscellaneous donations.

A special board meeting will be held at 7:30 a.m. June 28 in the administration office for year-end financial issues and hiring of personnel.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 19 in the high school library.
